WHY BANKXL FOR TALLY PRIME XML

Built for real accounting workflows.

Built for Tally Prime's import flow
The XML matches exactly what Tally Prime's Import Data (Ctrl+I → Vouchers) expects — no "could not import" errors, no schema mismatches, no manual field mapping. Just open your company, import, and every transaction is a proper voucher.
Receipt & payment vouchers, auto-typed
Credits become Receipt vouchers and debits become Payment vouchers, with the bank ledger set on the correct side. The counterparty imports as Suspense so you can bulk-reclassify inside Tally Prime in a couple of clicks.
No TDL, no add-on
Uses Tally Prime's native Import Data. Nothing to install, nothing to license, nothing to maintain.
Reference numbers preserved
UPI refs, UTRs and cheque numbers carry through as voucher narrations for a clean audit trail.
Correct date format
Dates emitted as YYYYMMDD, exactly as Tally Prime expects — zero date-mismatch import failures.
ERP 9 on a legacy client?
The same file also imports into Tally ERP 9 — see the general Tally XML converter for the ERP 9 walkthrough.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

Does this work with Tally Prime 4.x and the latest release?

Yes. BankXL emits XML in Tally Prime's standard voucher-import schema, which has been stable across Tally Prime 3.x, 4.x and the current release. The Import Data (Ctrl+I) flow is the same in every version.

How do I import the file into Tally Prime?

Open your company → Gateway of Tally → press Ctrl+I (or Import Data) → choose Vouchers → point Tally Prime to the XML BankXL gave you → confirm. Every transaction imports as a voucher, correctly dated.

Do I need a TDL or any add-on for Tally Prime?

No. This uses Tally Prime's built-in Import Data feature. There is no TDL to load, no plugin to install, and no third-party tool sitting between BankXL and Tally.

What voucher types does BankXL create?

Money in (credits) become Receipt vouchers; money out (debits) become Payment vouchers. The bank ledger is set automatically and the counterparty side imports as Suspense for fast bulk reclassification.

Which ledgers do I need to create first in Tally Prime?

Only your bank ledger has to exist before import. Everything else lands against a single Suspense ledger that you can re-tag in bulk inside Tally Prime — far quicker than creating vouchers by hand.

What's the difference between this and the general Tally XML converter?

This page is tuned for Tally Prime specifically. If you still run Tally ERP 9 for some legacy clients, use the general Bank Statement to Tally XML converter, which walks through the ERP 9 import path too — the underlying file is compatible with both.

Is the Tally Prime export free?

Tally XML export is part of the Pro plan (₹499/month, 800 pages). Free users get Excel. The Pro plan typically pays for itself on the first client statement you don't have to type into Tally by hand.
